In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students experienced isolation due to the extended virtual learning environment. The client recognized the need for a platform that would foster both academic engagement and social interaction. The initiative was designed to enrich the academic and social experiences of current students and facilitate a smoother, more engaging transition for newcomers. In addition, the app was designed to connect prospective students to the university community, allowing them to learn about campus life before enrolling.
The client is a team of Sacramento State University students who, working with the university's Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, came up with the idea to develop Buzly, a social media platform exclusively for Sacramento State students. Buzly was intended to provide a safe space for students to connect with peers, build a community and receive personalized campus updates based on their majors and interests.
Our team successfully met the challenges of developing a highly personalized and scalable application that improves both academic and social engagement.
